Edtech adoption - The Pencil Metaphor

The Pencil Metaphor

Associate Professor Steve Wheeler (University of Plymouth, UK) shared a beautiful metaphor in a recent blog post on Learning with 'e's : The sharp end. The adoption of technology to enhance learning varies for each of us in teaching. Some educators have yet to take the first small step while others are exploring where it is fit for purpose. Reflect on your own approach....are you a leader at the sharp end or an eraser at the back end?

If you are closer to The Erasers than the Sharp end, then Andrea Kurland of Google has some thoughts to share with you.  In her recent post, titled Recoding the Classroom, Andrea offers some simple lessons to help you get started and move forward.

"Faced with a complex future, some educational thinkers aren't afraid to accept that in order to move forward we need to dissect the old system and erect a new vision in its place. These key lessons can help pave the way:

LESSON ONE: THE WORLD IS CHANGING – JUMP ABOARD WHILE YOU CAN

LESSON TWO: LOOSEN THE REINS; LEARN FROM THE WEB

LESSON THREE: TECH IS A TOOL – UNTIL IT BECOMES AN AGENT FOR CHANGE "

You can read her full post on the Think Quarterly blog.
