The Networked Teacher

Dr Alec Couros (Department of Education, University of Regina,Canada) is reknowned for his diagram of The Networked Teacher.

It is his view that the typical or traditional teacher has a very limited network as depicted in the diagram below.

Dr Couros argues that those who teach in the 21st century need to develop a much wider network as depicted in his diagram, so that the shift toward digital literacy and fluency can be achieved. This will enable those who teach to integrate technology more fluently into the learning design through a range of digital activities that are embedded into the currriculum. Dr Couros is a strong proponent of Open Thinking and leads the way in using educational technology as an agent for change. This is strongly evidenced in his student work.
